Discover how this important change affects your AC installation plans
If you are like most owners in Washington’s western and Puget’s sound area, your heating and cooling system is not something you think about every day, until there is a problem. But what would happen if we told him to get a significant change in the industry that could affect the future of his family’s comfort?
The production of air conditioning and heat pump units that use R-410A refrigerant officially ended on January 1, 2025. Although it can still install R-410A systems until December 31, 2025, this transition is a significant step towards HVAC solutions more friendly with the environment.
So what does this mean for you as owner? We are going to break it down.

Why is the R-410A be eliminated gradually?
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) now requires a change of R-410A refrigerant. The measure is part of a continuous national effort to reduce the environmental impact of HVAC systems. Although R-410A is much better than its predecessor, R-22 (prohibited in 2020), it still contributes to greenhouse gas emissions.
Enter the next generation of refrigerants: A2L refrigerants. These alternatives are more efficient in energy and have a lower environmental impact, aligning with the global sustainability objectives.
6 reasons to wait for change to A2L refrigerants
1. lower energy invoices
New A2L refrigerants such as R-32 and R-454B improve system efficiency, helping families reduce monthly energy costs while maintaining the same level of comfort.
2. Increased warning and cooling reliability
HVAC systems that use A2L refrigerants experience less tension, operating more efficiently during a longer life.
3. Future to your home proof
The update to a system that meets the EPA helps you avoid possible future costs. Maintaining older R-410A systems will be increasingly expensive as supplies decreases.
4. Ecological choice
With a lower global warming potential (GWP), A2L refrigerants have less environmental impact, which helps Bellevue’s owners to make a sustainable decision.
5. Improved interior air quality
Many newer HVAC systems that use A2L refrigerants have advanced filtration and humidity control, which leads to a healthier domestic environment.
6. Increased house value
Houses with modern and efficient HVAC systems in energy are more attractive to buyers, which makes an update a wise investment for the future.
How does this change affect you?
If you plan to update or replace your heating and cooling system in the near future, this is what you need to know:
Limited Availability of R-410A systems
Since manufacturers no longer produce R-410A units, the inventory will become more limited. If you have recently received a price for a Bob’s R-410A system, we will do everything possible to meet it. However, if the stock is exhausted before its installation date, we may need to provide a reviewed quote for a system that uses R-32 or R-454B refrigerant.
What you can do:
-
If you are considering a new HVAC system and prefer R-410A, now it is time to act before the supplies work low.
-
If you are open to update the newest refrigerants, we will guide you through your best options.
Potential Price Settings
The new HVAC systems used R-32 and R-454B can be slightly more expensive due to the increase in production costs, new leakage sensors and regulatory compliance requirements.
What you can do:
-
Budget for possible price differences if you are planning a system replacement.
-
By adding A2L equipment to the comfort system of your home, it is important to keep in mind that the entire system must meet A2L.
Existing R-410A equipment service
We will provide total support for repairs and maintenance provided that your system remains in use and the refrigerant and service components are still available. Our current understanding is that the existing R-410A team can continue to be treated without problems.
What you can do:
- Stay up to date with regular HVAC maintenance to extend the useful life of your current system.
- If you notice the performance problems, call us for an inspection before minor problems become expensive repairs.
Transition to A2L refrigerants with confidence for the environment with confidence
The change can be overwhelming, but in Bob’s Heating & Air Conditioning, we prioritize it to keep it informed and comfortable in your home.
